Doughnuts

Homer Simpson's favourite and everyone else's. ▼

There was nothing much to do during weeknight so we tried to make some doughnuts ourselves.

Ingredients: 7 grams of yeast, a bit of lukewarm water enough to dissolve the yeast (not too hot or you'll kill the yeast), 200 grams lukewarm milk, 60 grams sugar, 1 tsp salt, 1 egg, 15 grams shortening, 1 gram of bread improver.

Glaze: 15 grams butter, 5 tbsp of powdered sugar (you can put more if you prefer thick glaze, that will mean more weight gain), some essense (optional).

Follow the usual bread making procedures for the dough. Knead until it is not sticky, add flour if needed. After resting the dough for about 30 - 45 minutes, cut out round shape, or square if you want to make some square doughnuts. This is the fun of making doughnut at home. Heat the oil but not too hot as the dough gets burn out very quickly. Until they are golden but not too brown, remove from oil and let them rest. Dunk the doughnuts into the glaze.

We made and ate 12 doughnuts.  Had some leftover dough.  You can make more like 24. Seriously, I think I need to do some sit-up after that.

YUM! I've never made homemade doughnuts, which is probably good, since I'd sit down and eat them all. These look perfect!

Sherrie,

That's probably why I've decided not to make them too often. They are really delicious and fresh, and creates "love handle" too :o)
