Stung!

Photo was taken at the Succulent Garden.

This photo reminds me of an incident many years ago.

Back home, our neighbour had this big cactus that stood about 8 or 9 feet tall. On that cactus there was a big beehive. Occupied by big black bees. I am not sure what it's called in English but if it is direct translated it's known as the "Tiger Head Bee". That name describes it all, it looks really ferocious, its body is as big as half my thumb size.

One day, I was standing by the door. I saw my brother picked up a few good size stones. In a "get set" manner, he aimed and struck that beehive. Exactly like you watched on the television. Those bees went berserk for a second and did really chase after him. He ran so quickly back and we slammed the door. One of the bees managed to get into the house. It stung me on the head!

It was really painful and mom brought me to the doctor. I went to school with half my face swollen. I couldn't even open one of my eyes. Everyone at school looked at me funny. Obviously, that bee didn't recognise faces. It stung the wrong person. The naughty culprit got away!

Have you ever been stung by a bee before?

Gosh! That must have hurt. I heard that bees are vengeful creatures.

Interesting picture of the cactus plant.

Mei Teng,
He was scolded! We had many dramas being kids back then. We drove our mom crazy.

Hui Ming,
Haha, I also run away or avoid them.

HappySurfer,
They definitely are vengeful. That's why I got stung :o). I think they are just protecting their hive.

I think i got stung during primary school days, very vague memory...

The bee didn't get far because they die after the first sting.
Nice cactus!

I'm glad none of those incidents!

Naughty boy...how did you get back on him? That bee should've gotten your bro instead!

btw, nice bokeh

It's dangerous being stung by insects. Over here, I remembered a little girl lost it after being stung by one...wasp or something.

I stay far away when I see bees around.

Your brother is lucky to get away but not you. Too bad. Hehe. I go stung before as I was so naughty and like to climb trees when I was small. Always get in touch with the bees in many occasion and got stung but not so serious. Didn't go see doctor as well. But I guess it is because the bees I met is those smaller one and not the tiger head bee.

Hcpen,
Was that a bee sting or some other insects?

James,
I wonder if the bee knows it will die after losing its sting. That's pretty courageous.

Ayie,
No I didn't get back at him. He got scolded by mom anyway :o)

Mei Teng,
Some insects are poisonous and some just cause serious allergy to the stung victims. I too avoid bees when I see them. 1 sting is enough experience for me :)

Superman,
Haha! You were also naughty climbing trees huh? I used to do that in my grandparents orchard. I got bitten by those fire ants as well. Served me right!

I think I was stung by the bees a few times when I was a kid coz I liked to go out and roll around the grass on the field in front of my house... and I walked into a cactus bush before because we were playing blindfolding and chasing after people. LOL!

That is an interesting name for a garden, Succulent Garden... hmmm... as for bees... I avoid them far far... I've been bitten by flies though... hahaha

Paul,
Haha! Very observant. Succulent Garden has all sort of edible plants. That's why it is called succulent. It is a good place to learn about all sort of funny looking plants that you can eat or extract water from, if one get lost in a desert.

Hello Ai Shiang, wow, you were lucky to get only one sting, and fortunately only a painful one.
Some bee stings do have stings that can really hurt, even give a ko to a weaker person.

I have been stung twice, by a wasp as well a bee...not to mention red ants, as well those monster size black, red ants found on rambutan trees.
But it was my own doing. Climbing rambutan and jambu trees without checking for these UFO's.

I have broken several Asian records for jumping, slidding down from trees as well running, ha ha.

You stay easy Ai Shiang, have a great week, Lee.

Ya. I am always outside the house when I am young. Climb trees, catch fish in the longkang...etc all sort of outdoor activities will attract my attention.

That was quite an encounter with a Tiger Head eh? Looks like you are going to remember this for awhile :)

I like your bokeh shot!

Wow, one bee can do so much damage? I want to be nowhere near beehives after reading this.

Never been stung, hopefully never will be.

Ai Shiang said...

Horsoon,
Actually I got stung during secondary school days. I still remember it 'cos it was damn painful :o). If it was a normal small bee it should not be so dramatic.

Shingo T,
If you don't disturb its hive, they won't attack you.

Ouch! That must be painful! You should have jumped into your bathtub or shower to avoid the bees! haha!

I've never been stung by a bee and I don't hope to be stung by one! : )
